why is it called the land of Aga
Islam arrived in Kargil in the 15th century. Mir Shams-ud-Din Iraqi, a scholar of the Shia school of Central Asia, visited Baltistan and Kargil with his missionaries to preach Islam. It is believed that the chief of Baltistan first embraced Islam and then the chiefs of Kargil accepted Islam. Before Mir Shams-ud-Din, Iraqi Khawaja Noorbakhsh visited Kargil and gave many Islamic sermons. Kargil is mostly inhabited by Shia Muslims and Aga is called the religious head and preacher. This is why Kargil is called the land of Aga.
Let us tell you that according to the 2011 census, the population of Kargil is 1,40,802. Kargil is a Muslim majority area, that is, the number of Muslims is the highest here. According to the 2011 census, the population of Muslims in Kargil is 76.87 percent. The population of Hindus in Kargil is 7.34 percent. Apart from this, 14.29 percent people follow Buddhism, 0.43 percent people follow Christianity. 0.83 percent people follow Sikhism, 0.02 percent people follow Jainism. In 1979, Kargil became a separate district in Ladakh region. It was separated from the former Leh district.
