Lanyards come in different colors and sizes depending on the service or rank of a military officer or policeman. Talking about Maharashtra Police, the lanyard for all State Police Service officers from constable to DCP rank is khaki in colour. At the same time, IPS officers and constables of the State Reserve Police Force wear navy blue colored lanyards.
How is it used
You must have seen the traffic police, they have whistles. The traffic police uses a lanyard to keep this whistle. For the whistle it is worn on the left side and is usually kept in the left pocket of the shirt. The rope tied on the left shoulder is called whistle cord. However, some officers also carry government pistols. Lanyard is also used to protect the pistol and it is worn on the right side. So that no one can snatch the pistol. That is, the lanyard was attached to the police uniform so that they could use it as per their need whenever needed.
Why is the whistle attached to the lanyard?
