Chandipura Virus : There is fear of Chandipura virus in Gujarat these days. Its first infection was found in Surat on Sunday. Where this virus has been found in an 11-year-old girl living in a slum area. According to reports, so far 27 suspected cases have been found, while 15 deaths have also occurred.

What is Chandipura virus?
Chandipura Virus is an RNA virus, which spreads through female phlebotomine fly. Aedes mosquito is also responsible for this. It was first found in Chandipura in Maharashtra in the year 1966. It was identified after the name of this place. Hence, it got its name Chandipura virus.
When the first case was investigated, it was found that the virus spread due to a fly roaming in the sand. In 2003-04, the highest number of cases of this virus were seen in Maharashtra, North Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh, when more than 300 children died due to it.
Who is most at risk of Chandipura virus?
Chandipura virus targets children. Children between 9 months and 14 years of age are most at risk. This infection spreads when the virus reaches the blood through the saliva of a fly or mosquito after being bitten.

Why is there less risk of Chandipura virus spreading in cities
Chandipura virus is caused by sand flies. Sand flies are mostly found in rural areas, so there is little chance of it coming to cities. However, efforts to prevent it should be made continuously.
How to protect children from Chandipura virus
1. Do not allow children to stay outside the house in less clothes.
2. Make children sleep only after using mosquito net.
3. Take measures to prevent sand flies from coming into the house.
4. Use insecticides to prevent mosquitoes and flies.
5. If any symptoms appear, immediately go to the nearest hospital.
