Woman Arrested With Cash In Poll Bound Nagaland: Unaccounted cash worth Rs 1 crore was recovered from a woman on Wednesday (February 1) in Kohima, Nagaland. With this the woman was arrested. News agency PTI gave this information quoting an official.

According to reports, the woman was arrested while carrying cash from a place in Kohima district near the Manipur border. The woman was carrying cash through a vehicle. Such a huge amount of cash was recovered from the woman at a time when the state assembly elections (Nagaland Assembly Election 2023) are to be held in a few days. That’s why the matter is being investigated from the political angle as well.

Static surveillance team recovered cash during vehicle search

The cash was recovered from the woman by the members of the Static Surveillance Team. It was told that when the woman was taking the vehicle with Manipur number plate from the Khujama inter-state check gate, the vehicle was searched and the cash was recovered.

The election officer gave this information about the recovered cash

In the report, quoting District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner Shanwas C, it has been told that according to the rule, the Income Tax Department has taken the cash in its possession. The deputy commissioner said whether the cash was meant for any political party or not, it is yet to be ascertained. He said that further investigation is going on.

Let us inform that the assembly elections are to be held in Nagaland on 27 February. Assembly elections are also to be held in the northeastern state of Meghalaya on the same day. At the same time, the Tripura assembly elections will be held a little earlier i.e. on 16 February. The results of the assembly elections of the three states will be released on March 2.
