The body of married woman Kiranmai (23) was found hanging from a fan in suspicious circumstances on Monday morning in Barkheda village of Sonakpur police station area of Moradabad. On receiving the information, her parents accused her in-laws of murdering her for dowry. They started creating a ruckus demanding action. In search of Kiranmai’s husband, her parents entered the neighbor’s house.
When the neighbours threw bricks and stones in their defence, the family members of the girl’s family came out. On receiving the information, CO Rajesh Kumar Tiwari pacified the people by assuring action. Kiranmai’s death on Rakshabandhan left her six brothers with empty wrists.
Hardwari, a resident of Shahpur Chamaran village of Hazrat Nagar Garhi police station area of Sambhal district, lodged a complaint in Sonakpur police station. He told that on 27 April 2024, he had married his daughter Kiranmai to Amarjeet, a resident of Barkheda village of Sonakpur police station area. His daughter’s in-laws were not happy with the dowry received in the marriage.
They started harassing and beating her daughter and started demanding five lakh rupees in dowry. They threatened to kill her daughter if their demand was not met. Meanwhile, several panchayats were held. Her parents gave 50 thousand rupees to her husband and in-laws, but despite this, her in-laws kept harassing her daughter demanding dowry.
