A decision of the Sharia Court of Malaysia is in discussion these days. Here the court refused to allow a woman to change her religion. When an appeal was made against the Sharia Court in the Civil Court, it was not heard and now this woman is forced to live as a Muslim. Due to her religion she is not able to marry her lover. After the court’s decision, the woman’s lawyer says that Muslims do not have religious freedom in Malaysia."text-align: justify;">The Sharia court of Kuala Lumpur has banned the woman from leaving Islam. The woman appealed against this decision several times in the civil court, but every time it was rejected. Along with this, the court also refused to allow the appeal again. Three judges of the civil court gave this decision. Justice Hasna Hasheen, Chairman of the bench hearing the case, said that the petition for re-appeal has been rejected."text-align: justify;">No freedom of religion in Malaysia
The woman’s lawyer Fahri Azzat said that this decision has made it clear that there is no recourse to leave Islam without the permission of the Sharia court. They said "Muslims do not have freedom of religion in Malaysia." In this case, lawyer Haneer Hambli said that if someone wants to leave Islam then he has to go to Sharia court. Civil court has no authority in this matter.
The case is going on since 2018
This woman says that even though she was born in a Muslim family, her mother allowed her to live her life in her own way since childhood. He never followed Islam. In the year 2018, he had filed a petition in the Sharia Court to leave Islam and adopt Buddhism, but he did not get permission for it. He was asked to attend 12 counseling sessions. In the next appeal also he was asked to undergo counselling. The appeal against this decision has been rejected in Sharia Court and Civil Court.
