Recently a positive change has been seen regarding organ transplantation in India. Where earlier there was a big difference between men and women in terms of organ transplant, in 2022 this difference has reduced to 2.36:1. This means that now for every two men, one woman is getting organ transplant facilities. This reform is the result of the Health Ministry’s various awareness programs and efforts to address the ethical aspects of organ donation.
Women’s share increased
According to the news published in Times of India According to Minister of State for Health Satya Pal Singh Baghel, a total of 36,640 organ transplants were done between 1995 and 2021, of which 29,695 were men. and 6,945 were conducted on women. This shows that the opportunities for organ transplantation for women have increased compared to before. Whereas earlier in 2021, only one woman got the opportunity for organ transplant for every four men, now that ratio has improved to 2.36:1. This means that now for every two men, one woman is availing the facility of organ transplant. This change has happened due to various awareness programs run by the Health Ministry and efforts to emphasize the importance of organ donation.

While explaining the importance of organ donation, the government and various organizations also tell people how many lives can be saved by donating one person’s organ. It is not only a means of giving new life to the patients but it also gives a message of unity and sympathy in the society. Organ transplantation is life saving. After the death of a person, his healthy organs can give new life to other people. Lives of 8 people can be saved from one person. Therefore, many people benefit from organ donation. Patients suffering from serious diseases can get relief from this. It increases the feeling of gratitude and humanity. The government is running an awareness campaign on organ donation so that more and more people get involved in this important work.
