The Chenab bridge has been designed for a rail speed of 100 km per hour. The main arch span of Chenab bridge is 467 meters, which will be the longest span arch bridge of Indian Railways. Although the area of ​​the bridge falls in Zone IV of earthquakes, this bridge is designed for seismic zone five (V).

The bridge is a sample of high quality engineering

Chenab bridge has been constructed keeping in mind the high speed wind blowing here. Its design can easily withstand wind of 266 kilometers per hour. Two tracks have been laid on the Chenab bridge. The bridge has been launched with Incremental Launching- Push/Pull method. Launching in this manner, it has also been pushed into a curve. This type of work is definitely a sample of high quality engineering.

World class welding has been used

Chenab bridge has 18 pillars in total, the tallest concrete pillar is about 49.343 meters and the tallest steel pillar is about 130 meters high. More than 27,000 tonnes of steel has been consumed in this bridge. With the help of DRDO, this bridge has also been designed for blast load. World class welding has been used to connect the bridge.
