Wrestlers Protest Row: After the allegations of sexual harassment and dharna by the wrestlers, the government had formed a committee to look into the functioning of the wrestling association. The names of the members of this committee were announced on Monday (January 23). However, the wrestlers have expressed displeasure over the formation of the committee. Olympian wrestler Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik tweeted on Tuesday (January 24) that the government did not talk to the wrestlers regarding the formation of the committee.

Tokyo Olympics medalist Bajrang Punia tweeted, “We were assured that we would be consulted before the formation of the Oversight Committee. It is a matter of great sadness that we were not even consulted before the formation of this committee.” Bajrang Punia has also tagged PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Sports Minister Anurag Thakur.

Olympian wrestler Sakshi Malik tweeted, “We were assured that we would be consulted before the formation of the Oversight Committee. It is very sad that we were not even consulted before the formation of this committee.”

Veteran boxer MC Mary Kom was made the chairperson of a five-member monitoring committee set up to probe allegations of sexual harassment against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

Other members of the committee are Olympic medalist wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt, former badminton player and Mission Olympic Cell member Trupti Murgunde, former TOPS CEO Rajagopalan and former Sports Authority of India (SAI) executive director (team) Radhika Sriman. Sports Minister Anurag Thakur had announced the formation of this panel on Monday.

Top wrestlers of the country have leveled allegations of sexual harassment and corruption against WFI President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The wrestlers staged a sit-in at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. After three days of dharna, Anurag Thakur had decided to form a committee on Saturday. Earlier on Friday late night after meeting with Anurag Thakur, the wrestlers had ended their strike.
