Wrong UPI Payment: Earlier when someone had to buy something, people used to buy it by paying cash. Or if someone had to pay money, they used to pay in cash or go to the bank and transfer the money to the account. But now the technology has changed a lot. The methods have become very simple. Now if people want to buy something, they can pay through UPI in a jiffy or if they want to send money to someone, that too reaches in seconds through UPI.
But this game of seconds sometimes makes you commit mistakes. You miss a small number and the payment is made to the wrong UPI ID. In such a case, you suffer a loss. What option is left with you after this? How can you get your refund? What are the rules for this? Let us tell you.
If wrong payment is made then do this work first
After making a UPI payment, you should always check whether you have made the correct payment or the wrong one. Because if you know that you have made the payment on the wrong ID, then you will be able to get a refund easily. And if you do not know and pay attention to it late, then you may face problems. So when you make a UPI payment on the wrong number, first of all call your bank’s customer care and inform them about it. Or the UPI service provider from whom you have made the payment.
For example, if you have made payment through Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm or any other app, then call its help center. You can also complain by calling toll free number 18001201740. Here you have to give complete details about the payment. According to RBI rules, if you have given information about wrong UPI payment to the payment service provider, then you can get a refund quickly.
You can also complain to NPCI
If your bank and API service provider company are unable to process your refund, you can also complain on NPCI’s portal. On NPCI’s official portal https://www.npci.org.in/, you have to click on the option of ‘What we do’. Here you will see many options. From which you have to select the UPI option. After this, after going to the complaint area, you will have to give all the information about your wrong payment. In which you have to enter the bank’s name, UPI ID, phone number, email ID etc.
File a complaint within three days
The most important thing after making a wrong UPI payment is timing. If you complain on time, there are high chances that you will get a refund quickly. That is, if you have made a payment and you complain within three days of it.
So your chances of getting a refund increase. But if you do not complain for three days, then it becomes very difficult for you to get a refund. Let us tell you that if you have complained and you have not received a refund within 30 days, then you can complain about this to the Banking Ombudsman.
