Legend of Yogini Ekadashi
In ancient times, a gardener named Hem lived at King Kuber’s place in Alkapuri city. He used to bring flowers from Mansarovar every day to worship Lord Shankar. One day he went for a free walk with his wife, due to which he was very late in bringing flowers. On reaching the court late, King Kubera got angry and cursed him to be a leper.
Due to the curse of the king, Hem Mali kept wandering here and there. While wandering, one day by chance he reached the hermitage of Markandeya Rishi. The sage with his power of yoga found out the reason for his unhappiness. The sage asked the gardener to fast on Yogini Ekadashi. Due to the effect of fasting, Hem Mali’s leprosy ended and he attained salvation.
