Hyderabad: Idli is one of the main dishes in South India. Idli is very much liked in every house and there are many reasons for this. It is delicious, easy to make and also full of health. Paired with home-style sambar and coconut chutney, it makes a complete South Indian breakfast. But have you eaten your millet idli? It is famous throughout South India for its unique taste and texture.
What is millet idli?
Speaking to Local 18, Manoj, who runs Marshall Millet Tiffin, explains that millet idli is a variation of the traditional South Indian idli, which is a popular breakfast dish across India. It is made from millet, pulses and rice which people like very much. They open the shop every morning and evening and there is a crowd of people because their taste is a little different from the normal idli. To make these, leaves are made into a cone which looks unique.
How to make Millet Idli
First of all, take 1 cup millet, 1/3 cup rice, same number of pulses and soak them in water for 2 to 3 hours. Then take it out and add little water to the mixture to make a less wet paste. To make it look unique, make a cone out of leaves, fill it with it and steam it in the same way as Idli is made, i.e. cook it with the help of steam. When it is cooked, enjoy it with sambar.

Many people also eat idli with tea. You are going to like this very much. Millet Idli is known for its health benefits and nutritious taste. It is very light and hence beneficial for health. This millet is known as ‘Kangani’ in Hindi, ‘Thinai’ in Tamil, ‘Navane’ in Kannada and ‘Koralu’ in Telugu.
