In Hathras, the message of a young man committing suicide with a packet of sulfas tablets went viral on Instagram. This post went viral at around 8.37 am on January 13. On the information of social media cell, CO and Inspector reached the youth’s house in Jatwan Gali and counseled the youth. When asked the reason for the suicide attempt, the young man said that his father had scolded him for going to work, hence he had circulated this post with the aim of scaring his father.

Hathras SP Nipun Aggarwal said that parents should stay in touch with their children and keep a close watch on which social media platforms they are active on. Keep an eye on them, keep talking to children and their siblings. Also keep in touch with their friends, so that if any post is posted by the children, they can know immediately. If any such post is posted, the police should be immediately informed. When two posts were found through social media, immediate action was taken and talks were held with both of them. Such cases have been removed from the category of crime in 2017.
