Demanding immediate government action on environmental issues, a man on Wednesday climbed a high-voltage electric pole in Khadar area near Thokar No. 14 of Geeta Colony. Police and fire department officials brought the man down safely after hours of negotiations. The man was identified as Madhusudan Biswas (40), resident of Pathuria North 24 Parganas, West Bengal. He was calling himself an environmental activist and teacher, but could not present any document in this regard. The police is investigating the matter after getting his medical examination done.

On Wednesday afternoon, Geeta Colony police station received information that a man had climbed an electric pole. As soon as the information was received, the police station in-charge and other policemen reached there. There was a crowd of people gathered there. A man was sitting dangerously on a high-voltage pole, tying himself with ropes. Meanwhile, fire department employees also reached the spot with rescue equipment. When contacted, the man, identified as Madhusudan Biswas, said he sent several emails to government officials demanding proactive measures on environmental issues. But no response was received. In despair he climbed the pole. He said he would step down only if he was allowed to meet the Prime Minister, the Chief Minister, the Defense Minister and a judge.
Due to his continuous demands, the challenge for the police officers increased. Madhusudan refused to cooperate. The Delhi Police team adopted the strategy of patient negotiation. Maintained constant communication with him the entire time. The officers gradually calmed him down. Police officials assured him that his concerns would be addressed. After several hours of negotiations he was finally convinced to get down from the pillar. After this the police took him into custody.
