Horror films have a different craze of their own. Many viewers keep looking for a good horror film. Zombie films are a form of horror films, in which due to some disease or some food or drink, a good person reaches such a state where he can neither be called a living person nor dead. Actually he gets stuck in a state between life and death, where he does not know what he is doing, he just remembers only one thing, that by cutting all the living people he sees, make them like him. That is zombie. Such films are either made into comedy or thriller. Recently a Marathi job film has been released on ZEE5 – Zombivali which is a comedy. One more thing to be kept in mind in Marathi films is that most of the characters are from the middle class and the story is also made on the lives of these people so that the credibility of the story remains intact. Zombievale is a short film but very cute. Seeing it is its own fun.
As is the story of every suburb of Mumbai, the same area has high-rise buildings along with slums and in the film, this area is Dombivli. Sudhir (Amey Wagh) and his pregnant wife Seema (Vaidehi) come to live in a flat there. There is water crisis in the area. There is a young man Vishwas (Lalit Prabhakar) in the nearby slum, who keeps on fighting for the rights of the slum dwellers. Sudhir works in the common of a mineral water where the owner is involved in some wrongdoings. As the story progresses, the whole of Dombivli comes under the grip of zombies and their terror continues to spread. Sudhir, Seema, Vishwas, some of Sudhir’s neighbors and a cameraman and reporter of a news channel run here and there for the whole night to save themselves. They come to know that Sudhir’s boss is mixing something in the water through his mineral water due to which people have become zombies. They reach the factory and fight the zombies and then the film ends happily.
The plot of Mahesh Iyer’s story seems very simple but the screenplay of the film (Siddhesh Puraskar, Sainath Ganuvad, Yogesh Vinayak Joshi) has managed to convert this small story into a 2-hour film. Siddharth, Sainath and Yogesh have written the cheeky dialogues of this film. Marathi audience will enjoy these dialogues a lot as they are directly taken from his life. There is a lot between the story and the screenplay that will tickle the audience as well as give a mild scare to the terror of zombies. Lawrence Dacunha’s cinematography maintains the mood and atmosphere of the film. The low light and zombie fight shots are well shot. Violence has been kept to a minimum even in the shots of zombies attack. Veteran Marathi film editor like Natrang Jayant Jathar keeps the story tied. In this film, it was necessary to have proper editing for thrill and Jayant’s scissor has not allowed even a single shot to be prolonged. Director Aditya Sarpotdar has directed more than one Marathi films. He started with “Uladhal”. Ritesh Deshmukh’s second superhit Marathi film “Mauli” was also directed by Aditya.
Everyone has acted well. Amey Wagh looks like a zombie himself because of his big eyes and strange beard, but he has played the role of an ordinary middle-class working engineer very easily. Amey is sometimes seen playing small roles in Hindi films or in web series. By the way, Marathi viewers know him better because of the viral video made by his digital company Bharatiya Digital Party. Lalit Prabhakar impressed the most, especially when he calls his right hand as Jaggu and Jaggu is not in control, so he always keeps that hand in his pocket. Although the film is based on zombies, Vijay Nikam has played the role of a villain in the film. He has also been seen in Hindi films doing small roles many times. Vaidehi, in the character of Sudhir’s wife Seema, has also used Marathi slang very well. If you enjoyed watching zombie comedy after watching Saif Ali Khan’s Jo Goa Gone, then watch Zombievale too, because there will be no need to understand the language, you will just keep laughing. The credits rolls of the film are at the end, in which a great song ‘Angaat Aalaya’ has been inserted and the presence of Siddharth Jadhav in it gives haunting fun. Will feel like dancing on the song.
