History of Misal
Misal started around 1890. Misal, as the name suggests, is a mixture. It is made from the material left after making any substance. The remaining part of the vessel, the vegetable of potato salad and the scraps left while making bhaji, all were mixed together beforehand. Deepak Joshi told that after this he started making models independently.
History of Vaidya Uphaar Ghar
“My great grandfather came to Pune from Konkan around 1905. Then he was staying in Joglekar’s palace. He had a Misal business, seeing which he felt that we should also do this restaurant business. Then he started it. When my great grandfather started the misal business, he did not use any leftover parts in making it. So he started making Sangal and giving examples. People liked this dish very much. So today this Vaidya Uphaar Grih, which is about 114 years old, is famous for its example,” says Joshi.
Features of Misal
This misal is prepared with aloo bhaji, matki umsal, poha and Konkani style rasa. The special thing is that the gravy of this misal is not made from tambar but from green chillies and ginger. We have always been making it with the same recipe. When misal was started, it was given at 2 annas. Today the price of this misal has become Rs 96. Deepak Joshi said, “Even today we are getting very good response from people.”
