Dr. Rajendra Prasad had opened it for the common people
Rashtrapati Udyan was opened to the common people by the country’s first President, Dr. Rajend Prasad. From then till today, it is opened to the general public every year in the spring season. Historians and people working there say that Zakir Hussain was very fond of roses. He brought many varieties of roses from India and abroad and got them planted here. This garden was kept behind the Rashtrapati Bhavan because the gardens of the Mughals used to be behind the palace. Therefore, Edward Sir Lutyens not only designed it, but also maintained the thinking of the Mughals in the same way.
Mughal Gardens on the lines of Mughal gardens
According to historian Vishnu Sharma, the beautiful gardens from which the Mughal Garden was built in Rashtrapati Bhavan, started from Aram Bagh in Agra. Before being taken to Kabul, Babur’s body was buried here to rest. In 1911, the British had decided to shift the capital from Kolkata to Delhi. He called the famous English architect Lutyens from England to India to design Delhi, and Lutyens designed Delhi.
