The proposal to make 1327 non-teaching temporary employees permanent was approved in the EC (Executive Council) meeting of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) on 17 February. After this decision, there is a wave of happiness among the employees who have been protesting for almost four months. In the EC meeting which lasted for five and a half hours, it was also decided to promote the Assistant and Associate Professors of JN Medical College and extend the tenure of temporary teachers by one year.
The meeting held in the registrar’s office from 12 noon under the chairmanship of Vice Chancellor Gulrez Ahmed continued till late evening, in which the first proposal was made to promote the Assistant Professor of JN Medical College to the post of Associate and Associate to the post of Professor through the screening committee. The condition for promotion is 10 years of experience. The second proposal made by the selection committee was to extend the tenure of temporary teachers working in AMU by one year. The members approved both these proposals.
After this, the third proposal was made to make 1327 non-teaching employees of AMU permanent. The employees were protesting for about four months demanding their permanent job. The EC members deliberated for a long time, after which the proposal was approved. It was decided that after the screening, the process of making temporary employees permanent will be completed.
In this meeting Registrar IPS Mohd. Imran, Prof. Mohammad Shamim, Dr. Murad, Dr. Musabbibar, Professor Moinuddin, Proctor Wasim Ali, representative of the Visitor President of AMU, Prof. Ashok Kadam, JNU, Prof. Geeta Singh, Delhi, Prof. from KGMU as representative of the Governor. Sonkar, Prof. BD Khan, Principal Tibbia College, Dr. RK Tiwari, Principal Dental College, Prof. Naima Gulrez, Principal Women’s College, Senior Provost Prof. GS Hashmi etc. were present. Proctor Prof. Wasim Ali has confirmed that these proposals will be approved in the meeting.
Expression of happiness after the news came at the protest site
After the decision was taken in the EC meeting to make the temporary employees permanent, the employees expressed happiness at the protest site in front of the administrative office. During this time it was decided that the protest would be ended after receiving the minutes of the meeting. Employee leader Faisal Gandhi said that there are a total of 2583 employees, including 120 nursing staff. There was a demand that the employees who have completed 10 years by 15 September 2023, should be included in the panel to be made permanent. Apart from these, the employees who remain will get priority in future. Now after 113 days of ongoing strike, today we have won, this decision is welcome.
