Most thefts are taking place in Shivpur, Lalpur-Pandeypur police station areas of Varuna zone. In Lohta, Sarnath, Baragaon and Cholapur police station areas, incidents like assault, threats, attempt to murder are taking place due to land related disputes. The police remains busy in resolving land related disputes only. In such a situation, it is unable to control criminal incidents. Investigation is also pending. In Shivpur police station area, 15 thefts have taken place in June alone. The locks of three houses and a shop were broken in a single night. 15 days ago also, thefts took place at four places in a single night.
New colonies are being built in Shivpur, Lalpur-Pandeypur, Sarnath police station area of Varuna Zone of Commissionerate. There is nothing in the name of security in these. CCTV cameras are installed in selected houses. Police patrolling is also not effective. In many cases, police do not even register cases of theft.
In pickpocketing, incidents of pickpocketing and chain snatching, mobile and purse theft are more in the Chowk, Dashashwamedh, Laxma and Bhelupur police station areas of Kashi zone. Most incidents happen with South Indians. Three to four cases reach the police station every day. Complaints of misbehavior by boatmen and guest house operators on the banks of the Ganga Ghat are also received in these police station areas.
