In the year 2018, she was sentenced to 17 years imprisonment in a corruption case.

Talking to ABP News, Bangladesh Nationalist Party spokesperson AKM Wahiduzzaman said that BNP chief and former PM Khaleda Zia has been released today. She has got her passport. Where she will go abroad for her treatment. Wahiduzzaman said that Khaleda Zia’s son and party’s acting president Tarique Rahman will now return to Bangladesh.

Tariq Rehman can handle the responsibility of the post of PM

Nationalist Party spokesman A.K.M. Wahiduzzaman further said that aIt is still not decided whether Khaleda Zia will be our PM candidate because she has been ill for a long time. But our party can make her son and party’s acting president Tariq Rehman the Prime Minister in her place. Tariq Rehman is ready to lead the party.

‘The administration seems helpless to protect the minorities’

Wahiduzzaman said that I am sad that I am not seeing any effort by the administration to protect the minorities. This is because Sheikh Hasina has involved the administration in corruption. She has politicized the administration as well as the army and paramilitary forces. I am also seeing a lot of anger against these institutions.

Interim government should be non-political- BNP spokesperson

BNP spokesperson while talking to ABP News said that we are demanding that the interim government should be non-political. They should hand over the power to the newly elected government as soon as possible. Along with this, elections should be held once in the next 3 months and power should be handed over to the newly elected government. He said that the situation in Bangladesh is very terrible. In such a situation, it is very difficult to identify who is killing whom.

Wahiduzzaman further said that former PM Sheikh Hasina’s party Awami League offices are being attacked. This should not happen. He said that we do not want any political party to face such situations. I am worried to see these situations. Where people are very angry. They are destroying the offices of the ruling party and setting them on fire. They are not from any particular party. Some of them are associated with the Awami League itself.

BNP chairman appeals to party workers to protect minorities

BNP Spokesperson Wahiduzzaman said that our party’s acting president Tariq Rehman on Monday (August 5) had urged all leaders and party workers to organize protests in all parts of the country. Instructions have been given to secure the temples. Generally, minorities support the Awami League. However, BNP leaders are trying to save these temples. Along with this, they are also trying to save the houses of minorities. He said that providing security to minorities is the job of civil society and political parties.
