A study by the Indian Medical Association has revealed that one-third i.e. 35.5% of doctors feel unsafe in night shifts.

Another study found that almost 70% of doctors faced violence at work. According to the report, the IMA Kerala State team conducted a survey involving 3,885 doctors across India in August 2024.

The number of women doctors among them is more. Some doctors said that they keep knives and pepper spray for protection. 3,885 doctors from 22 states participated in this online survey of IMA, out of which 63% are women doctors. 85% of the young doctors involved showed more fear. There is more feeling of insecurity among doctors aged 20-30 years, most of whom are trainees or PG trainees.

No separate room for night duty

45% doctors told in the survey that they do not have a separate duty room for night duty. Of the doctors who were below 35 years of age, 61% were trainees or PG trainees. 24.1% doctors said that they feel unsafe and 11.4% feel very unsafe.
