TV actress trapped in scammers
According to a report by NDTV, 40 private bank customers have lost lakhs of rupees in the last 3 days on receiving such messages. Customers were asked to update PAN card details in sms. The message was sent as if it had come from the bank itself. People thought that this SMS was from the bank and they updated the information. It has also been told in the report that one of these 40 customers is famous TV actress Shweta Menon, who hastily lost Rs 50,000 by clicking on the link.
Similarly it happened with other people as well, after which the Mumbai Police has also issued an advisory not to click on such links. Note, the bank never asks its customers for their personal information like account number, IFSC code, OTP, mobile number etc. If you ever get such a message, first of all go to your branch and get confirmation about it.
