A woman has stirred up new mystery in a missing person case. She has claimed that she is the same girl who disappeared more than 39 years ago. But the strange thing is that her mother does not believe her. Surprisingly, this is the third claim so far in which someone said that she is Cherry.
Cheri Mahan was last seen outside her home in Winfield Township, Pennsylvania, in February 1985, when her school bus dropped her off at a bus stop. The case took a new turn last month when an anonymous woman posted on the “Memories of Cheri Mahan” Facebook group, prompting state police to investigate her shocking claims.
The eight-year-old girl vanished without a trace after getting off a bus on February 22nd, accompanied by a mysterious blue 1976 Dodge van that was seen nearby at the time. Cheri’s mother, Janice McKinney, has rejected the woman’s claim that she is her long-lost daughter, who is now 46.
Speaking to local news outlet The Eagle, McKinney expressed her skepticism “I truly believe in her mind she thought it was a cherry. It didn’t look like a cherry at all.”
This is not the first time someone has come forward as three other women have claimed to be Cherry. A reward of $5,000 or Rs 41,17,000 has been offered for information leading to Cherry’s whereabouts. Despite this, McKinney said many tips are often received around the anniversary of her disappearance or her birthday, yet no clues have been found.
Police in Pennsylvania are continuing efforts to identify the woman and are contacting an outside agency in another state. According to US Today While her post on Cherry’s memorial page has since been removed, McKinney said she has always held out hope for her missing daughter.
