Janjgir Champa: Kotmisonar in Janjgir Champa district of Chhattisgarh has the country’s second and state’s only Crocodile Park, where tourists have started arriving from the district as well as from across the state and other neighboring states. Every day a large number of tourists are arriving and enjoying seeing the crocodile up close, and are also enjoying the swings and other resources in the park. There are currently 400 crocodiles in this crocodile park spread over about 80 acres.
Establishment and number of parks
In view of the number of crocodiles in Kotmisonar, the Government of Chhattisgarh has established Crocodile Park here in 2006 for their protection and conservation. More than 400 crocodiles live in the big lake built in this park. This Crocodile Park of Kotmisonar is the second largest Crocodile Park in the country after Chennai.
Operations and tourist numbers
This Crocodile Park of Kotmisonar is operated by the Forest Department of the district. Food arrangements for crocodiles are being made under the supervision of the Forest Department. Crocodile Park has been developed as a tourist destination. Sitaram Baba and tourist Tameshwari Patel told that people come here with great excitement to see the crocodile and enjoy seeing the crocodile from close. Swings, slides etc. have been installed here for the entertainment of children. Along with Janjgir Champa district, hundreds of people from all over the state are coming to see crocodiles every day. Here the entry fee in the park has been fixed at Rs 20 per person and Rs 10 for children. At the same time, it is absolutely free for the villagers. This park remains open from 09 am to 06 pm. It is closed one day a week, on Monday.
