Every class of person in the country wishes to go to the Parliament House. This is like a dream especially for people who come from Scheduled Tribes. Under this, the program ‘Panchayat to Parliament 2.0’ was organized in the Parliament House on Monday.
National Commission for Women (NCW), Lok Sabha Secretariat and Ministry of Tribal Affairs organized the program ‘Panchayat to Parliament 2.0’ in the Central Hall of the Constitution House. The initiative was organized on the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Lord Birsa Munda, a respected tribal leader and freedom fighter.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday inaugurated the second edition of the Panchayat to Parliament programme, which aims to educate over 500 women representatives of Panchayati Raj institutions across the country about the Constitution and parliamentary procedures. Organized to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Lord Birsa Munda, workshops and sessions were organized in this event, the participants new parliament buildingwas given a tour of the Constitution House, the Prime Minister’s Museum and the Rashtrapati Bhavan, which gave him in-depth information about India’s legislative process and the functioning of democratic institutions.
These women from 22 states got a chance
The event featured 502 elected women representatives from Scheduled Tribes (STs) from 22 states and union territories, ensuring a diverse and inclusive group. Its objective is to empower elected women representatives of Scheduled Tribes from Panchayati Raj institutions and to educate them about constitutional provisions, parliamentary procedures and governance to promote effective leadership. Women and Child Development Minister Annapurna Devi, National Commission for Women chief Vijaya Rahatkar participated in this program. Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram addressed a session.
This was the main objective of the program
In this program, constitutional provisions related to women, in which special emphasis was given on the 73rd Amendment – Panchayat Provisions (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act (PESA Act). This second program in the sequence of Panchayat to Parliament 2024 is Panchayat to Parliament 2.0. Its objective was to advance progress and further strengthen the leadership capacity of women, especially from rural and tribal communities.
