A video of a 92-year-old woman in eastern China is making waves on social media site Weibo as she climbs a gate more than 2 metres high to escape from a nursing home has gone viral, garnering over 1.25 million views. In the video, she skillfully climbs and moves around the gate in just 24 seconds.
This 1.6 meter tall woman, who has a keen interest in exercise and climbing, is reportedly suffering from severe Alzheimer’s disease. Yet her crossing the gate in this manner has left people puzzled. The staff of the nursing home in Shandong province quickly managed to find her in the surrounding area.
Her nimble moves seemed to belie her age, leaving Chinese netizens in utter amazement at her athletic ability. One user said, “At her age, falling while climbing can be fatal.” While others were impressed by her stamina and agility and joked about their own strength or lack of it.
One Weibo user said, “Her fitness level is better than people born in 1992.” Another wrote, “92 years old? I couldn’t even climb this at 29.” But some netizens expressed concern for her safety, with one Weibo user writing that he felt uncomfortable and feared the woman would fall off mid-video.
