A fisherman was stuck in the sea for 438 days, survived by eating fish, is facing this accusation even years after being saved

A fisherman has claimed that he survived for 438 days in the sea, but after finally coming to the shore, he was accused of killing humans and eating their flesh and he is facing that accusation even today. This is the story of Jose Salvador Alvarenga who went out to fish with his friend in the sea about 14 years ago. But when he returned after so many days, he had to face this accusation which he is facing till date.

José Salvador Alvarenga was 35 when he set out on a shark-fishing expedition from Mexico in December 2012 but the motor on his 24-foot fiberglass boat broke down, leaving him and his 22-year-old companion, Ezekiel Cordoba, stranded in the Pacific Ocean. Alvarenga became a worldwide sensation when he was found in January 2014 adrift on the Ebon Atoll of the Marshall Islands, a remote archipelago in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

The severity of his escape shocked many, leading to psychological testing and lie detector tests conducted by an American law firm in April 2014. Jeffrey Masonek, the head of Masonek Law Offices, said in 2014, “We have listened to Mr. Alvarenga’s story and we have concluded that it is 100 percent genuine.”

A bidding war soon began among publishers for the rights to Alvarenga’s memoir. Alvarenga claimed that when there was no rain, he managed to escape death by catching birds, fish and turtles and drinking the turtles’ blood and his own urine.

When Alvarenga first arrived on shore, he met Cordoba’s mother, Ana Rosa Diaz, and the two had a touching meeting that included tears and hugs. But in the 18 months since, relations between Alvarenga and his deceased partner’s family have soured.

Córdoba’s family was skeptical of Alvarenga’s false story and in 2015 demanded one million dollars in compensation, claiming that their beloved Ezequiel had been the victim of cannibalism at the hands of his fellow derelicts. Alvarenga’s lawyer has always strongly denied these claims.
