A place in UP…where bathing increases business, was built by sister-in-law and sister-in-law

Devrani Jethani Pokhara: This is the story of two women from Mohammadabad Gohna of Mau district. Both were sister-in-law and sister-in-law. Both of them worked as door-to-door laborers to make a name for themselves, collected food grains, sold them and got two ponds dug. These ponds were named after him as ‘Devrani Pokhri’ and ‘Jethani Pokhri’. Sant Ganinath Government College is situated on the banks of one pond, while the temple of Hanuman ji and Shani Dev is established near the other pond. Pokhara means small pond or lake.

Sister-in-law and sister-in-law made ponds
Talking to Local 18, Rajesh Chauhan said that both these women dug these puddles to immortalize their names. These temples were built from ponds, where people used to bathe and worship. However, today the condition of this pond has become so bad that people are not able to bathe in it. It was cleaned several times by social workers, but the condition of this pond is still bad.

Traders used to take bath here
When this pond was formed hundreds of years ago, its depth was said to be about 22 feet. But now it has reduced to just 10 to 12 feet. Earlier, businessmen used to take bath in this pond, perform puja and go about their business, due to which their business flourished.

No one has been able to capture it till date
Another significance of this pond is that whenever anyone tried to capture this pond, he had to face problems. Many times people who tried to occupy it or their family members became victims of some accident or the other. For this reason no one has been able to capture this pond till date.

A fair is also organized twice a year on this pond, where various types of events are organized in the memory of sister-in-law and sister-in-law. People come from far and wide and participate in these events.
