Thiruvananthapuram: New history was created when 52-year-old Goli Shyamala completed her historic journey by swimming to the banks of Surya Raupetta in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh on December 28 after completing a five-day long mission. Shyamala swam the distance of 150 km from Visakhapatnam to Kakinada in just five days. This is not only Shyamala’s personal achievement, but it has also become a source of inspiration for people of all ages.

Shyamala is a resident of Samaralkota village of Kakinada district. He achieved this unique feat under the auspices of the Coromandel Odyssey Ocean Swimming Organization. Shyamala covered an average distance of 30 km every day, which is a clear proof of her strength and courage.

A grand welcome was arranged for Shyamala in Kakinada by local people and civic leaders. Peddapuram MLA Chinnarajappa and Kakinada Municipal Commissioner Bhavana Vashishtha along with the local people gave a warm welcome to Shyamala, which was a mark of respect for her achievement.
Other achievements in the past
In 2021, Shyamala crossed another notable milestone by swimming the Pakistan Strait. Apart from this, in February he also demonstrated his strength in deep sea water by swimming in the sea of Lakshadweep. She became the first Asian woman to achieve this feat, which makes her unique courage even more special.

Shyamala was accompanied by a 14-member team, which included medical staff and scuba divers. This team was deployed for the protection and assistance of Shyamala. In an interview given to India Today, Shyamala shared the experience of getting the rare opportunity to swim with dolphins in the sea. However, he also said that the jellyfish were posing a challenge while swimming. This achievement of Shyamala proves that age is no barrier in chasing dreams.
