This competition takes place only once a year in Florida, America.
Florida is known around the world for its quirky citizens and extraordinary oddities, but its bizarre contest to rescue pythons from snake-infested waters will go down as one of the Sunshine State’s strangest traditions. Every August, participants from Florida and beyond take part in the annual Python Challenge, where people compete to catch and kill dangerous snakes.
Hundreds of participants can hunt pythons to their hearts desire from Friday, August 9 to Friday, August 18 at 5 p.m. (local time). According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), Burmese pythons are an invasive species in the Sunshine State that can grow up to 19 feet long. They are found in and around the vast Everglades wetlands and pose a threat to native wetlands.

Burmese python snakes pose a threat to the ecosystem, including local wildlife. They can breed in large numbers and eat a variety of animals, from eggs to small deer and crocodiles.
The first prize in the competition is Rs 8.4 lakh, which will be given to the person who removes the most pythons. After this, there will be prizes between Rs 2.10 lakh and Rs 84 thousand. Participants have to follow certain rules. Participants can be disqualified if they kill a python inhumanely or remove a native snake. A humane way to kill pythons is the “pithing” technique which destroys their brain without causing them pain.
