Aamir Khan Apology: The film ‘Animal’, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, was released in theaters on December 1, 2023. The film did record breaking business at the box office but it also had to face a lot of opposition from the audience. The film was described as toxic masculinity and anti-women. Aamir Khan’s ex-wife Kiran Rao had also expressed support on this.
On Kiran Rao’s opinion, Sandeep Reddy Vanga had said that he should criticize Aamir Khan’s films before ‘Animal’. Vanga had also given the example of the song ‘Khambhe Jaisi Khadi Hai’ from Aamir Khan’s film ‘Dil’. Now Aamir Khan has apologized for such films and dialogues.
‘Women are made ‘items’ in films…’
Talking to Aaj Tak, Aamir Khan said- ‘Hindi films have not been that responsible, especially in the way we present men and women. When we show something wrong in films, we also show that its result is positive. Which is wrong and we often make women ‘items’ in films.
Aamir Khan expressed embarrassment
Aamir Khan further said- ‘Even the songs are like ‘Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast-Mast’ and even I am involved in it and I have done such films. ‘Standing like a pillar, is it a girl or a stick.’ We are calling women ‘pillars’ but not human beings. I am very embarrassed by this.
‘It’s terrible that we’re doing this…’
Aamir further says, many societies in the world are patriarchal. India is one of them and the way we objectify women in our films, I have said this in my show ‘Satyamev Jayate’. I have sung a song ‘Khambe Jaisi Khadi Hai.’ In every sentence of this, women have been shown as something. So it’s terrible that we’re doing this.
