Khargon. Mandaleshwar, a religious city situated on the banks of Mother Narmada River in Khargone, Madhya Pradesh, where till a few years ago there were garbage dumps at various places. The garbage coming out of people’s homes and the dirt coming out of the drains by the cleaning workers were collected at these bases. Later, the municipal vehicle used to collect this dirt and take it away. But till then people had to struggle with the smell coming from the garbage. Also this dirt used to flow into Narmada.
But now these bases have been completely destroyed. And behind this there is a unique method adopted by the Municipal Council Mandaleshwar. Which has not only succeeded in eliminating these garbage dumps from the city, but has also changed the thinking of the people, and the pollution in Narmada has also reduced. Actually, there were 5 to 6 such places in different wards of the city, where the garbage of the entire city was collected. Many of these bases were about 50 years old.
6 black spots of 50 years old are gone
Speaking to Local 18, Municipal Council Mandaleshwar Chairman Vishwadeep Moyde said that there were 6 such black spots in the city where maximum garbage was collected, which were also called dens of filth. Years ago, these bases were built in Wards 1, 4, 10, 11, 15 and 6. Which was completely abolished by the city council within just 6 months. This not only enhanced the beauty of the city, but also provided relief to the people living nearby from the bad smell.
Several experiments on eliminating bases
He said, “It was not easy to eliminate the black spots that are so many years old, but this has been possible with the cooperation of the sanitation workers of the Municipal Council and the common people. Many experiments had to be done to eliminate these bases. Which mainly includes continuous monitoring by the employees in the morning and the help of CCTV cameras to stop the garbage throwers by being present at the spot.”
Adopted this unique method
The special thing is that during this experiment, the city council did not purchase CCTV cameras but only put up notice boards at the garbage dumps. In which it is written that you are under the surveillance of CCTV cameras and if you are found throwing garbage here, a penalty of Rs 500 will be charged. Due to fear of this punishment and the presence of employees at the spot, people stopped throwing garbage. However, the city council definitely took the help of the residents of that area whose houses had CCTV cameras installed. Due to this, the Municipal Council did not have to install cameras and lakhs of rupees were saved.
Changes in city council arrangements
Vishwadeep Moyde has also told that before stopping people from throwing garbage, changes were made in the arrangements of the city council. Before the people, the sanitation workers were explained and while cleaning the drains, garbage vehicles were driven along, so that the dirt coming out of the drains was put directly into the garbage van instead of being collected on the road.
