According to a report in The Print, India has reopened its embassy in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan. After this, the Taliban wants its ambassador to be posted in New Delhi. However, this could prove to be a major political challenge for India, which reportedly wants to reinvigorate its influence in Afghanistan. It is also being told that the Foreign Ministry of Taliban had requested the deployment of its ambassador for the first time in July last year. At that time the country’s Joint Secretary JP Singh had gone on a tour of Kabul. About 80 ITBP jawans of the country are also present in the embassy located in Kabul for their security.
Thoughts on opening Consulate General
Indian officials are overseeing the humanitarian assistance provided by India in the form of food and medicines in Afghanistan. India is also considering opening its Consulate General in Kandahar, which was closed after the fall of the Ashraf Ghani government. According to a report, Taliban officials are also in touch with Indian intelligence agencies.
After the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan, the UN mission was closed. This used to exchange information about Taliban Pakistan-backed Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed and Al Qaeda terrorists. In 2019, it was warned in the United Nations report that these terrorists of Lashkar and Jaish are helping the Taliban. He is working as a link, trainer and specialist in making IEDs in the Taliban regime.
