The length of the underwater tunnel will be about five hundred meters. Let us tell you that in 2006-2007, the work on the East-West corridor of Kolkata Metro started.

This underwater metro will save a lot of time for commuters, the project is being constructed by the Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation (KMRC). This metro line is connecting Howrah to Salt Lake via Central Kolkata. The major attraction for the passengers in this metro are the twin tunnels, which are made of 1.4 meter wide concrete rings. These tunnels are being taken out from under the water for about half a kilometer, so that the passengers will get a unique experience on passing through a water body.

How to rescue in case of emergency?

Complete arrangements are being made to ensure that water does not enter these tunnels. For this it has been equipped with hydrophilic gaskets. Apart from this, exits are also being made in the tunnels for emergencies like earthquakes. At the same time, special routes have been made for the rescue of passengers in case of technical problems. The concrete of the tunnel is prepared with fly ash and micro-silica, making it suitable for use under water.
