The Delhi government, taking lessons from this and in view of heavy rains, has issued new guidelines for the safety of school students. Let us tell you about it in detail.

What is the guideline

According to the new guidelines issued by the Directorate of Education (DOI), private and government schools will have to follow the provisions of the Delhi Master Plan 2021 regarding the use of basements in public buildings. The school staff will have to take all necessary steps at their level to avoid waterlogging in and around the school premises. The guidelines said that an unfortunate incident recently took place in Delhi, in which three candidates preparing for UPSC died due to waterlogging in the basement of a coaching institute and a public service aspirant died due to electric shock. Therefore, it is important that all Delhi government schools ensure the safety of their students and have the proper required infrastructure to avoid any untoward incident.

This was said about the basement

The guidelines state that the principals should ensure that if there is a basement in the schools, it should be used only as per the provisions of the master plan and the approved plan. According to the notification, there should be entry and exit arrangements from all the gates of the schools. At the same time, access to the basement should be properly marked. Along with this, this thing should be clearly indicated in the school evacuation plan.

Corridors should be empty

Apart from the basement, all the corridors of the school should be free from obstructions at all times. Apart from this, regular checking should be done for water accumulation on the corridors and stairs of the school and necessary action should be taken.  Along with this, electrical wires and fittings including equipment should be checked and all safety norms should be followed to avoid any untoward incident. All necessary fire safety measures should also be present in the school.
