AIIMS study in Delhi reveals high prevalence of common mental disorders among adolescents


AIIMS Mental Health Study: It has been found in many studies that people who complain of depression are in the young age group. They remain at risk of mental illnesses even after growing up. Symptoms of mental illnesses are minor in the beginning but later they become serious. Even doctors are not able to detect the disease in the initial investigation. Due to which mental illnesses increase significantly.

AIIMS study revealed

The recent report of AIIMS is telling the truth of the fast-paced life in cities. The AIIMS report has revealed that out of 491 youth living in urban areas of Delhi, at least 34 percent are suffering from some kind of mental illness. Of these, 22.4% suffer from depression and 6.7% suffer from tension. A scary report has come out in a study conducted by the Center for Community Medicine and Mental Department of Delhi AIIMS.

Why are the youth becoming mentally disturbed?

According to a study in Ambedkar Nagar and Dakshinpuri Extension, an urban colony located in south-east Delhi, a lot of problems were seen among the young people. This was mostly seen in those young children who smoked and consumed tobacco a lot. At least 26 participants used smoking tobacco. 25 percent of the participants consume tobacco like gutkha, khaini or pan masala.

According to the Global Burden of Disease Study (2019), youth are becoming victims of depression due to disability and social status. According to the AIIMS report, according to a report published in the Indian Psychiatry Magazine, the youth living in urban areas appear to be much happier but the young children in the age group of 15-19 years suffer from depression and tension. These young children suffer from many mental illnesses.
