Air India Flight Controversy: A hearing was held in Delhi’s Patiala House Court on Wednesday (January 11) regarding the incident of alleged urination on a female co-traveller in an Air India flight. The court has reserved the verdict on the bail plea of accused Shankar Mishra. The Delhi Police has also challenged the order of the magisterial court, in which Shankar Mishra was denied custody.
Advocate Manu Sharma, appearing for Shankar Mishra, said that only one non-bailable offense is mentioned in the FIR, others are bailable offences. Shankar Mishra’s lawyer said on his behalf that he could not control himself after consuming alcohol in the flight, but opening the zip of the pants was not for sexual desire. The case of the complainant does not place him as a promiscuous person. The trial will take time, but after these allegations, Shankar Mishra has been dismissed from the job.
Police opposed bail
Advocate Manu Sharma said that my client has clearly and voluntarily participated in any inquiry related to the alleged incident with the intention of proving his innocence. They will assist the police in the investigation. Delhi Police opposed Shankar Mishra’s bail plea. The police said that if he is released on bail, he can influence the complainant. The Public Prosecutor representing the Delhi Police said that under 164 the statement of the complainant has been recorded along with several others. More statements are yet to be recorded.

Significantly, the Delhi Police had arrested Shankar Mishra from Bengaluru on Saturday. The accused was sent to judicial custody for 14 days by the Patiala House Court on Saturday. According to the Delhi Police, Shankar Mishra is accused of urinating on an elderly female co-traveller in a business class of an Air India flight from New York to Delhi on November 26 last year in a drunken state. . The Delhi Police had registered an FIR against the accused on 4 January.
