On Monday morning, lakhs of people in Delhi and NCR faced worsening air quality. Because on Sunday the pollution level of this area reached ‘severe plus’ category. Toxic air presents immediate and long-term health risks. Due to which the possibility of serious diseases like lung cancer, asthma and pneumonia increases.
The government is trying to curb air pollution with a number of measures, from limiting the use of vehicles to ordering government offices to operate at 50 percent capacity. Despite this, there has been no positive improvement in air quality. Because the short-term efforts of the government are very small compared to the factors contributing to pollution.
As AQI worsens, experts indicate that it affects multiple organs, starting from the lungs, as pollutants enter the body through them. These include allergic rhinitis, nasal irritation, headache and skin problems. Chronic exposure can lead to conditions like asthma, COPD and even lung cancer.
Pollution level in Delhi is increasing day by day
Like every year, this year too pollution in Delhi has reached dangerous levels. In such a situation, not only is it difficult for people to breathe, but many diseases are also being seen among the people. A recent research has revealed that pollution can also cause cancer. Know what this research says.
lung cancer disease
Arvind Kumar told that lung cancer is a dangerous disease and after its diagnosis, survival is expected for five years. We were surprised to see the increasing cases among youth and women who do not smoke. Arvind Kumar, lung surgeon at SGRH, said that almost 50 percent of these patients were not smokers. This figure increased to 70 percent in the (below 50 years) age group.
Doctors at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital (SGRH) have described the results of the study as worrying. Under this, more than 150 patients were analyzed from March 2012 to June 2018. It is generally believed that smoking is the main cause of lung cancer, but there is solid evidence that the role of polluted air is increasing in the increasing cases of lung cancer. Not only smokers but also non-smokers are affected by lung cancer. We are struggling and this is probably happening due to increasing air pollution. This claim has been made in a new study conducted in the last six years.
