Aishwarya’s acting career started with Tamil film
Aishwarya Rai won the Miss World pageant in 1994. After this he entered films. Aishwarya Rai started her acting career in 1997 with the Tamil film ‘Iruvar’. This political drama was inspired by the lives of M.G.Ramachandran, M.Karunanidhi and J.Jayalalitha. Apart from Aishwarya, Mohanlal, Prakash Raj, Revathi, Gautami, Tabu and Nassar also played important roles in the film.
Was going to debut in Bollywood with Sunil Shetty’s film
After this, Aishwarya made her Bollywood debut with Bobby Deol in the 1997 romantic drama ‘Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya’. However, her first film was with Sunil Shetty named ‘Hum Bachche Hain Ek Daal Ke’. Filmmaker Rahul Dholakia has shared this interesting thing in a recent interview.
Speaking to casting director Mukesh Chhabra on the series The Bombay Dream on Mashable India, the Raees director said, “I had taken up the production for a film called Hum Panchhi Hain Ek Daal. It was Aishwarya Rai’s opposite Sunil Shetty. The first film was directed by Shashilal Nair and I was handling the production for it and one thing I learned was what a director should not do. The incidents are very stupid.”
Because of this, ‘We are birds of a branch’ was stuck.
Rahul further said, “He wanted the best unit and crew, so I suggested him the name of the action director of the film Independence Day. The ego of the director was of another level, but this kind of attitude does not work in America. Director Wanted to shoot an action sequence in the Grand Canyon. He wanted the rocks to be the size of a room, he asked for 1000 rocks of that size and when asked how many takes he would need for that scene, he got angry. Because of these actions of the director, Hum Paanchhi Hain got stuck.”
Aishwarya made her Bollywood debut with ‘Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya’
‘Hum Bachche Hain Ek Daal Ke’ was never released. Whereas ‘Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya’ was a commercial flop. Nevertheless Aishwarya Rai became a superstar in Indian cinema. His last two films – Ponniyin Selvan I and II – proved to be the highest grossing films of his career. Both the films together earned Rs 830 crore at the worldwide box office.
