Sirohi : Be it a house or a shop or any other building, its strength depends on its pillars and walls. But what if there are no pillars? And that too is not a small room. Rather it is Asia’s largest hall, in which 25 thousand people can sit together. It is such a hall and that too without pillars.
This is the biggest hall not only in India but also in the continent of Asia. No pillar was used to build it. Its design is such that it was built without any pillar and it has been standing strong for the last 28 years. The country’s President Draupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, many former presidents, chief ministers of many states and celebrities have visited this hall. We are talking about the Diamond Hall built in Shantivan, the international headquarters of Brahmakumari Institute located in Mount Abu of Sirohi district.
The hall was built in 1996
This hall was built in 1996 at Shantivan, the headquarters of Brahmakumari Ishwariya Vishwavidyalaya, during the tenure of the head of the institute, Dadi Prakashmani. It took only 9 months to be built. The construction work of the hall was completed under the supervision of Chief Mechanical Engineer Ramesh Kunwar and other engineers. At that time, it cost more than Rs 3 crore.
Translation in 16 languages
The length of this hall is 450 feet and width is 213 feet. The carpet area is 1 lakh square feet. 25 thousand people can sit together in it. There are 46 gates and 84 windows for the entry and exit of the people coming to the hall. There is a stage of 3 thousand square feet and a hall of 8,988 square feet. There are two translation rooms on both sides for translation of the programs held here in different languages. Translation can be done in 16 languages in these. Two big LEDs are also installed for people to see. Apart from air ventilation, ten huge fans are installed. The name of this hall was recorded in the Limca Book of Records as the country’s largest hall in the national category.
250 people for hall maintenance
BK Vallabhbhai, who has been looking after the Diamond Hall for 24 years, said that the Diamond Jubilee year of the institute was being celebrated. During that time, the idea of this hall came up. Therefore, it was named Diamond Hall. Apart from him, there are two other in-charges to look after it. For cleanliness, the services of 10 regular employees and members of the institute are also taken. In big programs, 200-250 people work in the hall.
This is how the idea came
Mechanical engineer Ramesh Kunwar, who played an important role in preparing this hall, said that there is a special mechanical design to build such a big hall without pillars. It has been prepared on that basis. He got this idea from Bhatinda. After that, the entire roof work was done without pillars under his supervision. 50-60 people used to work daily in mechanical work. Apart from this, laborers used to do construction related work separately.
