Flag hoisting ceremonies took place at Ajmer Dargah on 27 December 2024. On December 29, the annual sandal was removed from the tomb of Khwaja Garib Nawaz. The Urs of Khwaja Garib Nawaz started with the sighting of Rajab moon on 31 December 2024. On the sighting of Rajab moon, Jannati Darwaza located in Alsubah Dargah was also opened for common pilgrims. Ajmer Urs will end on 7 January 2025.
Friday prayers will be offered on January 4. On January 7, the ritual of the small clan will be performed and on January 10, the ritual of the big clan will be performed by the Khadim community in the Dargah.
What rituals take place in Urs? (Urs Rituals)
The ritual of hoisting the flag in Urs is very old. This tradition was started in the year 1928 by Hazrat Syed Abdul Sattar Badshah Jaan Rahmatullah Alaih of Peshawar. After this, the family of Lal Mohammad Gauri of Bhilwara followed this tradition from 1944-1991. After this, Moinuddin Gauri hoisted the flag till 2006 and now Fakhruddin Gauri is carrying on this tradition of his ancestors. During the offering of the chadar, Sufi Kalam and a 25-gun salute is also performed. Along with the flag, there is a ritual of offering a sheet in the tomb. Bedsheets for Khwaja come from different countries. Prime Minister Narendra Modi (PM Modi) has also been sending bedsheets to Ajmer for the last 10 years. The process of sending chadar to Ajmer by the Prime Minister has been going on since 1947, in which prayers are offered for peace and brotherhood of the country.
