Politics has heated up on the issue of electricity in Uttar Pradesh. SP has accused the government of cheating while taking revenge of its defeat by cutting power and increasing rates. Leaders of various parties said that the Energy Minister is making false claims of 24-hour supply. Indiscriminate cuts are being made not only in rural areas but also in urban areas.
BJP is taking revenge for defeat: Akhilesh
SP President Akhilesh Yadav has said that the BJP government, enraged by its defeat in the Lok Sabha elections, is hell-bent on taking revenge by harassing the voters of the state in every way. The claim of 24-hour power supply in the scorching heat is hollow. Due to power cuts, water is not available at some places and at other places people are suffering in the scorching heat. On the other hand, some way or the other is being found to increase the electricity rates.
First improve supply, then talk about increasing rates – opinion
Congress state president Ajay Rai said that the claim of 24-hour power supply is completely false. Rural areas are barely getting 10 to 12 hours of power. Consumers have nothing to do with local faults, what is important is how many hours of power they are getting. There should be no increase in power rates at any cost. Due to power cuts in Purvanchal, small factories are on the verge of closure.
Increasing electricity rates is condemnable – Hiralal
State Secretary of Communist Party of India (Marxist), Hiralal Yadav said that it is reprehensible that the Power Corporation is finding different ways to increase rural electricity rates. Due to the proposal passed by the Board of Directors, all consumers will have to pay about two to two and a half rupees more at the higher rate. Therefore, such a proposal should be rejected.
Contempt petition will be filed tomorrow
In the name of 24 hour power supply in rural areas, a contempt petition will be filed by the Consumer Council in the Regulatory Commission on Tuesday against the order of declaring the rural feeder as urban and urban billing. Council President Awadhesh Kumar Verma said that the Board of Directors had decided to change the feeder in January-February, but the order has been issued now. He informed that to reduce the electricity rate of rural domestic electricity consumers and farmers, the government gives subsidy of around 14000 crores so that the rate of rural feeder remains cheaper than that of urban feeders. If the Corporation changes the rural feeder into urban then it is a violation of the subsidy system.
