Aligarh Muslim University Minority Status: The Supreme Court has given its verdict on the minority status of Aligarh Muslim University. The court has said in its decision that a committee of three judges has been formed to determine the minority status of the university afresh. In its decision by a majority of 4-3, the court has rejected the Aziz Basha decision of 1967, in which the basis for denying minority status to AMU was made. CJI Chandrachud said that there is a difference between establishing an institution and its becoming a part of the government system, the purpose of Article 30 (1) is that the institution created by minorities should be run by them only. There can be minority institutions under Article 30.
