When did it get the status of central university?

Aligarh Muslim University is located in Aligarh, UP, about 150 to 160 kilometers from the Indian capital New Delhi. It is included in the major central universities of the country. Which was established in the year 1920 by Sir Syed Ahmed Khan and in the year 1921 it got the status of Central University. It was established on the lines of Cambridge University. According to reports, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan had established AMU realizing the need for a modern educational institution. He first laid its foundation as Madrasa-e-Tulum in 1875, which later became Anglo-Oriental College in 1877 and Aligarh Muslim University in 1920.
