In Aligarh, people were troubled by fog and severe cold in the early hours of 29th December. People were seen shivering at bus stops and public places. Visibility reduced significantly due to fog. The cold waves accompanied by fog have increased the chill. By nine in the morning there was dense fog on the roads. At six in the morning the situation was such that vehicles were moving with their lights on. 29th December was the coldest day so far.

Due to the effect of western disturbance, the maximum temperature was 6 degrees below normal. The maximum temperature recorded was 14 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature was recorded at 12 degrees Celsius which was 4 degrees above normal. Compared to December 28, a huge drop of about five degrees Celsius has been recorded in the maximum temperature. In the last five days the minimum temperature has come down by about eight degrees. Therefore this was the coldest day of the year so far. According to the Meteorological Department, dense fog will cause trouble in the coming days. The maximum temperature will also drop further. There is a possibility of the new year starting with rain.

With the increase in winter, the market of warm clothes has increased. The sale of eggs and non-veg along with peanuts, gajak and tea is increasing.

The number of passengers was also very less at the bus stand located at Gandhi Park and Sarsaul. Due to broken glass in buses, passengers are forced to travel facing icy winds. It has been foggy since eight o’clock at night. Doctors say that it is very important to take precautions in changing weather. Children and elderly people should stay at home during this season.

Railways canceled four trains including Swarn Shatabdi Express, Lichchavi, North East and Unchahar Express on December 29 due to dense fog. During this period, Bareilly Express took nine hours, Rewa Express eight hours, Gomti Express five hours, Mahananda Express four and a half hours, Muri Express and Kalka Mail one hour each, Seemanchal and Tundla passenger trains reached the station late by 45-45 minutes. In the last one week, 368 passenger tickets were cancelled. Passengers took refund of about Rs 14 thousand.
