Sang on radio at the age of 5
Alka Yagnik herself revealed in an interview that her mother started teaching her singing when she was three to four years old. Her mother is a classical singer. When she was just 5 years old, she sang for the first time on Kolkata All India Radio station.

According to Alka, she had recorded her Bollywood song for Rajesh Roshan’s film ‘Hamari Bahu Alka’. She also sang ‘Thirakat Ang Lachki Jhuki’ from the film ‘Payal Ki Jhankar’. But the singer got recognition from the song ‘Mere Angne Mein Tumhara Kya Kaam Hai’ from Amitabh Bachchan’s film ‘Lawaris’.
