Etawah: On the instructions of Siddha Purush Khatkhata Baba, a museum was established on the banks of Yamuna river in Etawah, UP. Thousands of manuscripts, rare texts of ancient literature, handwritten texts on palm leaves and birch leaves etc. were preserved in this museum so that the coming generations could get a glimpse of the country’s glorious heritage and ancient literature, but due to lack of proper maintenance, the national heritage kept safe in this unique museum of the country is now losing its existence.
There are more than 15 thousand books
There are more than 15 thousand books on culture and other Indian languages in the museum. These priceless texts have been wrapped in cloth and kept inside 10 cupboards in 4 rooms. The sundial here used to tell the time every hour from sunrise to sunset, but now it has lost its original form. This clock is Kalabaddh 5005 Mesha 16 years old. The beginning of Kalabaddh is considered to be from the beginning of Kaliyug. Therefore, the use of Kalabaddh has been discontinued.
The stone that does not sink in water is a heritage
In 1965, Mahipal Singh, the in-charge of this museum, went on a trip to Rameswaram, from where he brought the Rameswaram stone which does not sink in water. This stone is now a heritage of the museum. The sundial is now broken. Apart from Vedas, Puranas, Upanishads and other religious texts, the museum also has handwritten books on palm leaves and Bhoj Patra.

Deputy Commissioner was a disciple of Baba
This Sanskrit Vidyapeeth was established in the year 1866 by his disciple Shri Brahmanath ji with the blessings of Siddha Purush Shiv Prasad Khatkhata Baba. Brahmanath was the Deputy Commissioner in Etawah, who was impressed by Baba and dedicated himself to his service and the supervision of the Vidyapeeth.
The deputy commissioner became his disciple
He even resigned from his government job. He was the only disciple of Khatkhata Baba who achieved the same siddhis and conduct as his Guru and was called ‘Chhote Khatkhata Baba’. He was interested in bringing books to the Vidyapeeth, as a result of which the number of books in the Vidyapeeth kept on increasing.
Know the specialty of the museum
Shri Brahmanath took care of Sanskrit Vidyapeeth and Museum from its inception till 1925. Along with this, Lahar State which is now in Madhya Pradesh, was ruled by Prayag Singh Rajawat. He carried out his duties well till 1966. After this, his son Mahipal Singh took over the responsibility.
