Guatemala migrant set a woman on fire: A tragic incident happened in America on Sunday morning. A Guatemalan migrant allegedly killed a woman by setting her on fire on a train. According to Hindustan Times report, this incident happened at around 7:30 am at Stillwell Avenue subway station in Coney Island.
The man who allegedly committed the murder has been identified as 33-year-old Sebastian Zapeta. He entered America from Guatemala about a year ago. It is not clear whether he entered the country legally or illegally.
On Sunday evening, New York Police Department (NYPD) officials, including Police Commissioner Jessica Tish, said, ‘As soon as the train stopped at the station, the accused approached the victim. He set fire to the victim’s clothes. He used a lighter to set it on fire. Within a few seconds the woman was completely engulfed in fire.
Police further said that the officers patrolling the station went inside the train after seeing the smoke. At the scene they found a woman completely engulfed in flames. The fire was immediately extinguished, although it was too late. The woman had died.
How was the accused caught?
After the incident, accused Sebastian Zapeta was at the spot. He was found sitting on a seat in the train compartment. His footage was captured in the camera. After the suspect’s information and photographs were released to the public, three high school students recognized the man and called 911. The train was then stopped at the next station, where officers boarded, identified the man and arrested him. The information as to why the accused murdered the woman has not been revealed yet.
