Due to the indecent behavior of the Provost of Sir Shah Suleman Hall of Aligarh Muslim University, the students closed Bab-e-Syed and staged a sit-in on late Tuesday night. The Provost has been accused of making religious satire against a research scholar. The proctorial team was engaged in convincing the protesters.

The students told that a research scholar approached Provost Prof. regarding some of his problems. Shamshad went to Hussain. Instead of listening to the problem of the researcher, he made fun of his appearance. There was an argument between both of them. The researcher told this to his colleagues. After this the group of students reached Bab-e-Syed at around 10 pm. The iron door closed.

The students said that the behavior of the Provost is very bad. The quality of food in the dining hall is not up to the mark. The program that takes place in the hall remains in the hands of only a few students. Other students should also get a chance. AMU’s security personnel informed the proctor about the closure of Bab-e-Syed. Within a short while the proctorial team also reached the spot. The team members asked the students to get up from the dharna and open the door, but they did not agree to their request. Stood firm on the demand for the removal of the Provost.

The students of SS Hall have closed Bab-e-Syed and are sitting on a dharna with other demands including poor quality of food in the dining hall, poor behavior of the Provost. They are being explained to end the strike. -Pro. Mohd Wasim Ali, Proctor AMU
