Android In India Will Look Very Different As Google Follows Govt Order Know Key Changes

Google India: Google India is going to make changes in the system of operating its Android mobile operating system and Google Play App Store in India very soon. The company was heavily fined in October 2022 following a case by India’s antitrust watchdog, the Competition Commission of India (CCI), which saw Google’s dominant position in the smartphone market. There is a huge market for Android smartphones in India. The new policy can give relief to Android app developers and also give more options to the users. Some of the major changes include the default web browser and alternative payment methods for developers by not using the Google payment method.

Through a press release, Google said that it is committed to comply with the local laws and regulations in India, but will need some time to implement the CCI’s directives.

Freedom to the original manufacturer
First, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) can now license individual Google apps for pre-installation on their devices. This means that smartphone makers can license smartphone apps pre-installation on their devices to whomever they want. Earlier, Google’s apps like YouTube, Meet and Gmail used to come pre-installed from the beginning under the Android licensing agreement.

Users can choose their default search engine.
Along with this, users will now have the option to choose their default search engine through an option screen, which will be visible in upcoming smartphones very soon. This means that now it is not necessary that users have to use Google’s search engine only. They can default the search engine of their choice. With this, many people will come to know about the rest of the search engines.

Developer will get other billing method
Google has said that it will offer more billing options. Developers will also be able to give users the option of an alternative billing system along with Google Play’s billing system. In fact, developers had complained that payments made through Google’s billing system automatically lead to sharing commission, reducing the overall revenue of app developers.
